Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Image
Hey everyone! No, I didn't read this book this week, I read it a few years ago when it first came out, but it is one of my favourites and I thought I would get the review for it up on my site so that you who haven't read the book yet know what's up! Meet Nora Grey, an average girl who writes a blog, and wants to do well in school and hang out with her only friend Vee. Too bad for her Coach has decided that she can't sit beside her best friend in their human reproduction class, and she has to sit beside the silent exchange student who doesn't want to help her pass the class. Okay, so he does want to help her pass the class, but he wants a lot more than that. He enjoys using any moment he can to get under her skin, and she hates him just as much as she finds herself being drawn to him. But there is something strange about the way he keeps showing up everywhere she goes. After Nora is attacked she begins to suspect that something certainly isn't right with h...

The First Days by Rhiannon Frater

Image
Hey everyone, how's it going? This week I read The First Days, and I have to say, I am a bit horrified. Don't get me wrong, it was a great book, and wonderfully written, the only thing I had problem with was the... no boundaries... The author did not hold back anything, and they didn't care who you were, you were going to die a horrible death. It was more realistic than any zombie book I have read before. So let me tell you a bit about it. We start the book alongside a woman standing outside her house as she watches tiny fingers scrape at her from under the door. It doesn't take long for you to realize that these tiny fingers belong to her three year old son whom she had found being eaten alive by her zombified husband. Then you meet her other son, who had been eaten trying to save her. It is obvious she is in shock as she stands there watching her dead family try to break from the house so they can eat her. But just as they are about to get free from the house, a...

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Image
Hey everyone, I am taking a short break from reading my ARC's to do a book I really wanted to read. Throne of Glass has been sitting on my shelf waiting for me, and I finally was able to get a break to read it. I thought the author did an amazing job portraying the character of the assassin in a time that we know nothing about. Celaena is an 18 year old assassin who was sentenced to the mines under the kingdom to work as a slave for the rest of her life. Beaten and whipped she managed to survive a year with only killing one keeper and only nearly escaping the inescapable prison once. But now she is getting her freedom... In a way... The Crown Prince Dorian comes to her and asks her to fight as his champion in the upcoming tournament to decide the next champion of the King. If she wins, she will have the chance to work for the King for 4 years before she is given her freedom and is able to return to her home. But if she loses, she will be sent back to the mines with no hope of...

Starling by Lesley Livington

Image
Alright everyone, hello again. Just finished reading Starling, so let's get to it. I have been splurging on books lately, reading them by the dozens, instead of only one a week like I had planned. To be honest, I think I am getting addicted (though there are much worse things I could be doing) I had a few problems with this book, which I will get into after the description, but other than that it wasn't a terrible waste of my time. Meet Mason, girl, who is on the fencing team at her University in New York City. She and her team are practising hard for the nationals, where she plans on coming out on top, when a sudden storm blows over and the side of the building is destroyed. Things should be fine but they go from kinda crappy to horrible when strange monsters invade the school and attack the students. But thank god a naked man who can fight, but has no idea who he is, shows up and saves the day! (ugh) Then, everyone decides that it is best not to talk about what happene...

Partials by Dan Wells

Image
Hey everyone! Just finished reading Partials by Dan Wells, a book recommended to me by my best book buddy who always finds me good next series to read. All in all it was a good book with a good story line and a fantastic lead up. Meet Kira, a new medic in the time after the war with the partials where a group of man made robots that had human DNA released a deadly virus called RM virus that killed almost all of humanity. Kira and a small group of other survivors have created their own civilisation where they try to find the cure for the virus as it kills any new born child. So basically, in the last 11 years since the partial war ended and all the partials disappeared, not a single child has been born. Kira is 16 and is working hard to find the cure before the pregnancy age, the age that all woman must start getting pregnant and remain pregnant as long as they can, is dropped from 18 to 16. But after her best friend, who is basically her sister, gets pregnant, and she realises...

Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs

Image
Hey everyone, finished last weeks read Tempest Rising. Now I didn't have high hopes going into this book. I was right when I found I couldn't really relate to it. When you read a book you have to have some sort of connection to the main character so that you can easily put yourself in their place and enjoy the story. But Tempest, the main character in this case, is not something your average every day girl can relate to. Meet Tempest, who is about to turn 16 (I think). Her mom left her to live in the ocean when she was young. Oh yeah, her mom is a mermaid. Tempest experienced some bad crap with the ocean when she was younger and blames herself (kinda) for her mom leaving. All she has is a note from her mom saying that when she turns 16 she will have the choice to turn into a mermaid or stay on land. Kay. So, like I said, Tempest is the kind of girl most people can't relate to. She surfs every day with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Mike. Now the surfing is what th...

The Hobbit by Tolkien

Image
Hey everyone, just finished reading The Hobbit, by Tolkien. As most of you know I have been diving into my geek side lately and have been reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy. To finish off the series I read the Hobbit.  Now don't angry at me for saying this, but I truly loved the Hobbit more than I liked the trilogy. I found there wasn't so much to remember, and they didn't feel the need to explain everything in such great a detail. The characters were loveable, and the storyline was great. We meet Bilbo from the first book of Lord of the Rings, who just wants to go about his lively hood as normal, when a strange wizard Gandalf comes to his home and invites him on a great journey with twelve dwarves to reclaim their homeland in the mountains. The only problem is of course that their mountain home was once claimed by a dragon that still lives there. Bilbo's job? To get into the mountain and defeat the dragon while he is confused by the sight of the Hobbit. Now B...

Glimmerglass by Jenna Black

Image
Hey everyone, just finished Glimmerglass by Jenna Black. This was a pretty good book altogether. We join Dana who leaves home to escape her drunken mother and live with her father who is a powerful Fae living in a magical town called Avalon. When she get's there she runs into some trouble with her Aunt and then with two teens who 'save' her from her aunt and take her somewhere she is supposed to be 'safe'. While with them she learns a little more about herself, though it doesn't make her feel any better to know she is a Faeriewalker, able to walk through to the Faerie realm and bring humans and technology with her. That makes her target number one as everyone wants to get her on their side, including her father, aunt and just about everyone else. There is also the slight problem of the Faerie Queen wanting her dead so that she can't try to overthrow them like the others have in the past. Together with the help of her two new friends, well only really...
