City of the Lost by Kelly Armstrong

Hey everyone. This is coming at you a little late (because I started watching a new show and lost track of the time). This week I read City of the Lost, which I had seen at the school bookstore a few months ago. At the time it was too expensive to read but I came across it on sale online and thought to get it. I was excited to start reading because Kelly Armstrong is an author that I had loved reading long before this blog ever came into being. She has a strong voice in all of her books and it is well developed story wise. But let me tell you a bit about it: Casey Duncan is in a bit of trouble. Even as a Detective she is unable to keep the people in her life safe from those around them. In fact, she just seems to be making it worse. Her best friends ex-husband is back, beating his way back into her life one punch at a time. Her boyfriend is being hunted by the ghosts from her past. All she needs to do is get away for a little while to sort things out. Rocton is the perfect plac...

Ghost Stories by Woman

Welcome back everyone, it is Monday again which means another review. This week I read a large book of short stories written by woman on the topic of ghosts. I was mainly interested because it had Kelly Armstrong, and I am a fan of hers. In the end I was disappointed by Kelly Armstrong's story, as it was the shortest and one of the first that I really didn't enjoy reading.  Another thing I learned while reading this book is that it isn't something you should try to read in one sitting, or over a period of days. After the first couple ...

The Summoning by Kelly Armstrong

Hey everyone, look at that beautiful book cover right there. Isn't it nice? It's a good book too, that lead to a lot of awesome books to come after it, and an entire other series that connects with this one. I actually read this a couple of years ago before Kelly Armstrong became big. I liked it mostly because it held my attention from the first chapter and didn't waste any time getting right into the story. Chloe wants to live a normal life, and so far she is achieving just that. That is, until she sees a ghost one day at her high school, and the ghost notices that she can see it and attacks her trying to get her to help. She freaks out and has to be restrained by her teachers, and then she is sent off to a school for troubled teens. At first she doesn't realize why she is there, considering she freaked out one time and suddenly they are shipping her off to the looney bin. But the longer she spends there the more she notices that the kids there are like her.  ...
