Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantasky

Image
Hey everyone, this weeks book was Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, which is quite the mouthful if I do say so myself. This book has been pushed at me from all my sites, my bookstores, and basically every advertisement I have seen on books. The ratings were high, so I suppose I had my hopes up going into the story. Big mistake. The book was very rushed I feel, the main story almost being thrown violently at you. Let me try to explain it. Meet Jessica, duh, who is waiting for the bus when she notices a strange man watching her. He says her name, but not the one that everyone knows. He says her old name. OMG, what? Her old name? Apparently she knows that when she was a baby she had a name, that her adoptive parents told her about, but now she has a new name. Not even an hour later the guy shows up in her class, acting all high and mighty, and clearly knows nothing about high school at all. Jessica, being a big baby, calls her mom to take her home because she thinks ...

Canadian Disasters

Image
Hello again everyone, this week I have actually read a book, even if it isn't so much a popular teen book that I have been doing in the past. This time I decided to switch it up and read a history book I took out from my school's library. I love history, and as a Canadian there is nothing cooler than to read about the disastrous history of my country. It was a great book, and I learned a lot from it, but I won't be doing much of a review on the book. It had different stories from different elements all over the country from mine disasters to natural disasters like tornados and floods. It was well written, and captivating, so I would give it a 4 out of 5 star rating. But I would not recommend anyone to read this book. Now that isn't because it isn't a good book, not at all. But if you do not live in Canada, the events don't affect you very much, and it looses its interesting state. For you who don't live in Canada, I would recommend finding a history bo...

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Image
Good day to you, my fellow readers. I have just been informed that there is a possibility that this book, Paranormalcy, will be being made into a movie. So, in light of the good news, I thought I would give a review to the book, even though I read it a year or two ago. I loved the book, and I loved the cover, and best of all, it is a trilogy, my favourite! Evie is your everyday teenager living in a secret lab that deals with Paranormals. What are Paranormals you might ask? Well, a paranormal are anything from vampires to ghosts, to anything that isn't classified as 'human'. This lab hunts down rogue paranormals and 'tags' them, and then gives them jobs where they can live their lives and not have to pose a danger to the humans. Now, Evie is basically human, but she is special in a few ways. One, she can see past the glamour of paranormals and can see what they really are when they are trying to hide. Two, she seems to have captured the attention of one of the ...

Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Image
Hey everyone! No, I didn't read this book this week, I read it a few years ago when it first came out, but it is one of my favourites and I thought I would get the review for it up on my site so that you who haven't read the book yet know what's up! Meet Nora Grey, an average girl who writes a blog, and wants to do well in school and hang out with her only friend Vee. Too bad for her Coach has decided that she can't sit beside her best friend in their human reproduction class, and she has to sit beside the silent exchange student who doesn't want to help her pass the class. Okay, so he does want to help her pass the class, but he wants a lot more than that. He enjoys using any moment he can to get under her skin, and she hates him just as much as she finds herself being drawn to him. But there is something strange about the way he keeps showing up everywhere she goes. After Nora is attacked she begins to suspect that something certainly isn't right with h...

The Librarian's Daughter by M. M. Gavillet

Image
Hello again everyone, this week I read The Librarian's Daughter, which was send to me as an advanced copy by the lovely author and Goodreads. Have to say, I didn't know what exactly to expect going into this book, and I wasn't disappointed by story. It had a good flow to it, the characters were pretty cool, and the author clearly put a lot of work into making it. Meet Abi, who's aunt and only guardian has just passed away. Forced from her home she spends some time with her cousin and her stupid husband, who seems more like a jerk than anything else (even for a lawyer). She doesn't plan on staying too long, just long enough to find a place to live, but she finds the perfect job, meets a cute guy, and seems to have everything going for her. But everything changes when she receives a letter from her dead mother in her aunt's will, and it reveals a whole new side of her life that she never thought could ever exist. As a Librarian, no not in an actual legit lib...

The 'In-Between' Books

Hey guys, today I want to take the time to appreciate all the 'in-between' books. Now, you might ask yourself, what is an 'in-between' book? Well, an in-between book is any novella or short story that happens on the side of a good story. So that is mostly 0.5 books (prequels) or 1.5 books (Stories happening between the first and second books). These stories don't always have to be read to understand the book, but they are always a good read and might answer some small questions that you have been asking yourself that the original story only lightly touched on. A lot of the time you will see these books from the point of view of someone besides the original narrater,  and these people always give you more of a look on the story than what you normally see. By doing this the author is giving you either a sneak peak at what is to come, or they are trying to answer questions that they know their readers have been asking, but it is too inconvenient for them to answ...

North Of Boston by Elisabeth Elo

Image
Hey everyone, so I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of North of Boston from the lovely author and Goodreads, and I thought I should give you my thoughts on the book. Now, it is not what I would normally read, as it is a bit above my age group, but I really have to say that I enjoyed it! It was packed with mystery and suspense, murder, love, and all the things that a teen would love. The only difference was that instead of from the point of view of a clumsy teen, it is from a grown woman, who is well on her way in life. So here we go! Meet Pirio, Russian descent, who is living in America, and has just recovered from a tragic accident that killed her friend. While they were out fishing in his boat they are run down by a large tanker and she is thrown into the icy waters out in the sea while her friend is drown aboard the ship. She lives, astoundingly, in the chilly waters for four hours, a hell of a lot longer than any human ever should be able to. This makes her a her...

Dear Canada Diaries

Hey everyone! Now this post is going to be a bit different then what you all are used to. Normally I would show you a picture of the book I read, tell you a bit about it, and then rate it. But today I am going to tell you about a series, not at all related, but at the same time, has a lot to do with each other. It is called the 'Dear Canada' series. Each book, and there are a lot of them, has a different writer, and a different story from the perspective of either a little girl or a little boy. From book to book they are in the form of a Diary from the children's point of view of events that changed Canada greatly. The first one I read took place during the Halifax explosion, and described from the little girl's perspective how she loses her family, and how she suffers with her town. There are others such as the Polio epidemic, the Flu Epidemic, The Titanic, The Underground Railroad, and so on. If you love history, which I do very much, than this is a series you sh...

Starling by Lesley Livington

Image
Alright everyone, hello again. Just finished reading Starling, so let's get to it. I have been splurging on books lately, reading them by the dozens, instead of only one a week like I had planned. To be honest, I think I am getting addicted (though there are much worse things I could be doing) I had a few problems with this book, which I will get into after the description, but other than that it wasn't a terrible waste of my time. Meet Mason, girl, who is on the fencing team at her University in New York City. She and her team are practising hard for the nationals, where she plans on coming out on top, when a sudden storm blows over and the side of the building is destroyed. Things should be fine but they go from kinda crappy to horrible when strange monsters invade the school and attack the students. But thank god a naked man who can fight, but has no idea who he is, shows up and saves the day! (ugh) Then, everyone decides that it is best not to talk about what happene...

Poison Princess by Kresley Cole

Image
Hey everyone, just finished reading Poison Princess by Kresley Cole, so here's what I think. To be completely honest I only read this book because by chance I picked up the second book in the series and it looked, by what I read on the back, to be pretty promising. The first book didn't seem as promising, but as we all know one cannot simple start the second book without first reading the first. The book starts out from a persons point of view as Evie comes to his house after an event caused most of the world to be killed or turned into zombies who search for anything to drink in the barren landscapes, even blood. Flash back to almost a year ago and we meet Evie, a girl living in Louisiana who has just been let out of an asylum because of her hallucinations she experiences. She is going back to school for the first time in a few years where she hopes to strengthen the relationship she has between her boyfriend and her best friend. But there is a new boy, Jack, who is from...
