K's Book Review

Ok, so here is another great book, first in the Wings series, that I recon is worth a shot! I did not want to originally read this book, but one of my oldest friends read it and I would be damned if she would read a book that I would not. And I truly liked it! So much so that I went out the next day and bought the rest in the series. I have done the review for a later book in this series a few years ago here on the blog, but I thought that now would be a good chance to do the first book considering how long it has been. Hey everyone, just finished reading The Way We Fall, which as most of you know was part of the white pine selection books. The reason I read it was mostly because I have yet to read any of those books, and as one book club to another I find I should support the reading. It was a different sort of reading, as the writing style was in the form of many diary entries that are being written from the main character, Kaelyn, to her friend Leo who has left the island they live on. I thought it was actually kind of good, which is weird for me as I don't normally like these kinds of things. Hey everyone! Just finished reading Partials by Dan Wells, a book recommended to me by my best book buddy who always finds me good next series to read. All in all it was a good book with a good story line and a fantastic lead up. Meet Kira, a new medic in the time after the war with the partials where a group of man made robots that had human DNA released a deadly virus called RM virus that killed almost all of humanity. Kira and a small group of other survivors have created their own civilisation where they try to find the cure for the virus as it kills any new born child. So basically, in the last 11 years since the partial war ended and all the partials disappeared, not a single child has been born. Kira is 16 and is working hard to find the cure before the pregnancy age, the age that all woman must start getting pregnant and remain pregnant as long as they can, is dropped from 18 to 16. H ey everyone! Today I haven't read a book, or I did but I'm not doing the review for until next week, but I am finally doing a review on one of my absolute favourite books of all time. Today, the review will be on L.J Smith's book trilogy The Forbidden Games. Hey everyone, just finished reading The Hobbit, by Tolkien. As most of you know I have been diving into my geek side lately and have been reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy. To finish off the series I read the Hobbit.  Now don't angry at me for saying this, but I truly loved the Hobbit more than I liked the trilogy. I found there wasn't so much to remember, and they didn't feel the need to explain everything in such great a detail. The characters were loveable, and the storyline was great. We meet Bilbo from the first book of Lord of the Rings, who just wants to go about his lively hood as normal, when a strange wizard Gandalf comes to his home and invites him on a great journey with twelve dwarves to reclaim their homeland in the mountains. The only problem is of course that their mountain home was once claimed by a dragon that still lives there. Bilbo's job? To get into the mountain and defeat the dragon while he is confused by the sight of the Hobbit. Now B...

Hey everyone! So the long awaited book of the century has been read finally! Lord of the rings was a fabulous movie with an amazing story line. For the longest time I have been waiting to read the series and see how much detail the movie had missed, and I must say I was not disappointed!  I found that the movie really romanticized everything, adding in relationships between any character they could. And the hobbits were a lot different as they were actually almost 50 years old in the book, compared to the young looking hobbits in the movie. Now I understand that the hobbits in the movie were also that old, but it was hard to imagine because they had child like faces! A character they missed out on in the movie, and whom they did a very good job completely leaving out in every way, was Tom Bombadill. Hey everyone, just finished reading Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. Preordered this book only for it to come in the next day, had to laugh at that, and I wasn't really sure what to expect. I've been trying to read new books, or at lease start new series lately, because to be honest the series I have been reading are getting too long, suck now, or aren't coming out until 2014. Bleh. Hey everyone! So I just finished reading Splintered, a book I never knew existed until I spent a few hours researching to find my next book. I was intrigued by the possibility promised that a new wonderland, not explored by Alice, could be introduced. And I must say after reading it I was not disappointed. I mean look at that cover! So beautiful, it promised lots and delivered. We start off meeting Alyssa, one of the original Alice's great-great-great granddaughter. We also meet her mom Allison, who is in a mental hospital because she speaks to flowers and bugs. Weird right? Not really, because Alyssa has the same problem, one which she runs away from by killing the bugs and turning them into art for the purpose of trying not to turn into her mother, or grandmother who all suffer from the same curse. Hey everyone, so I've been watching some movie trailers and I happened across the one for the book above, World War Z. Though the movie didn't look like my cup of tea, as I don't like horror, zombies or tea, the book description was a lot different and actually piqued my interest. I ordered it a few days ago and did a coin flip to see which book I should read. Well, fate chose this book and I couldn't be happier. I haven't been able to put it down through school or my home life. What really got me about this book was the fact that it wasn't at all like a regular book, or at least, not any that I have read.  At first it took me a while to get into the flow of the books, as there are many different stories being told and many questions being asked. All of the questions being asked are by the narrator about events that happened during the war. Hey everyone! Great to be writing again! Just finished reading  Crush, Candy, Corpse by Sylvia McNicoll and I have to say it was nothing like what I expected. The back of the book doesn't explain just what you have to expect going into this novel. It is not a romance, it is not a story about finding yourself, it is a story of a court case about a girl who may or may not have murdered an old women because she asked her to. From what I read I couldn't tell whether she did it or not. But anyway, we meet Sunny who is on trial for the murder of an old women who chocked to death on a candy at the retirement home where she was earning her community hours. We see her flash backs to her time there and how she fell in love with this women's grandson who had promised the old lady that when her disease progressed too far that he would help her commit suicide. We see her progress with this boy even though she has a boyfriend who is a criminal. It is hard to describe this book ...

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't posted for a while, I have been busy finding new series to read and catching up on school work. But now I am back in the swing of things with a whole new line up of books to read. The one you may see in the picture above is What really happened in Peru? by Cassandra Clare author of the Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices trilogies. I loved all her book from City of Bones all the way up to The Clockwork Princess, but out of all the amazing characters she created Magnus Bane, the high Warlock of the world, was by far my favorite. His charming atmosphere drew me in right away. So when I heard she was writing a series of short stories all based around him I dropped everything I was working on and worked my hardest to getting a copy. It turns out it is only available in an ereader, so lucky me that my mom bought be one a while ago and set up an account for me. Hey everyone, just finished Glimmerglass by Jenna Black. This was a pretty good book altogether. We join Dana who leaves home to escape her drunken mother and live with her father who is a powerful Fae living in a magical town called Avalon. When she get's there she runs into some trouble with her Aunt and then with two teens who 'save' her from her aunt and take her somewhere she is supposed to be 'safe'. While with them she learns a little more about herself, though it doesn't make her feel any better to know she is a Faeriewalker, able to walk through to the Faerie realm and bring humans and technology with her. That makes her target number one as everyone wants to get her on their side, including her father, aunt and just about everyone else. There is also the slight problem of the Faerie Queen wanting her dead so that she can't try to overthrow them like the others have in the past. Hey guys, just finished Hex Hall so let's get down to it! Meet Sophie, a witch trying to get through high school at her prom night. She thinks she is doing the right thing by doing a love spell for a lonely girl, but everything goes wrong and she is sent to a private boarding school to learn to control her powers. She meets three other witches like her, but they are witches with a capital B. They try to recruit her, to no avail, and she instantly becomes their enemy. Her new room mate, a vampire that loves the colour pink, is anything but normal, being the only vampire in school. Then theirs Archer, the strange warlock boy that is dating the enemy. But hey, there's some romance there that you would see coming of course. Throw in a few murder attempts on some witches and you got yourself a pretty crazy story. Hey everyone! So I just finished a few book I got and I thought I would update for you! Above is the picture of Cinder, by Marissa Meyer. It was a pretty good read, recommended to me by my friend who had read it a few months ago. To be honest I got it two months ago and just couldn't bring myself to read it until now. The story follows Cinder, a cyborg teenage girl struggling to survive in the world. It follows an almost Cinderella story the way she deals with her mother and evil step sister. But there are a lot of changes. She has one sister who is loving to her, until she catches the plague, a deadly disease that is killing hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. Her step mom, blaming Cinder for her sisters certain death, offers her to the government for testing for the cure to the disease. There Cinder learns some pretty crazy things about herself and finds herself getting closer to the prince, who is kind and strong when he is around her. But she has secrets ...

Hey Everyone! Just finished Blood Red Road by Moira Young. This book was interesting, though still good. The grammer is horrible, but it is written as though the girl never learned to speak or spell. Which is exactly what fits the main Character Saba. Saba lives in a isolated town with her dad, her twin brother Lugh and her sister Emmie. One day 5 men on horses come and kidnap her brother and kill her father. Saba sets out on a crazy journey to save him and meets some interesting people along the way. One of my favorite characters, which doesn't get all that interesting until book 2, is DeMalo, the Tonton leader who has a thing for Saba. I would most certainly recommend reading both books in the series, but be warned about the writing. You have to read a lot into the book before you start to get used to the writing. But I would say you should read through it all the way. 4 our of 5 stars.

Hey everyone, just finished reading Eye of the Crow by Shane Peacock. He is a local in my area and I know a lot of his family. Not only that, but I have a meeting with him at the end of the month. I am very excited! So that is one of the reasons I decided to read this book. It is the first the the boy Sherlock Holmes stories. This is his very first case! When Sherlock is out one day he hears of a murder, and somehow gets caught up in the whole thing after he is blamed. So as his first case it is his duty to become a fugitive to prove himself innocent.  I really enjoyed this read, though it isn't at all what I am used to reading. I would suggest reading it if you have not already. Shane is a great guy and is very creative as you can easily see through his writing. 4 out of 5 stars

Hello everyone. I've been away for a while, but this is a great on going series of comic books that became a TV series not that long ago. If you have not read the books, or if you haven't seen the show you should give it a read/watch. The story starts when Rick Grimes, a police officer with a loving family, awakes in an abandoned hospital after falling into a comma due to a gun shot wound. Soon he finds that the people in the hospital did not just leave him there for death. In fact, almost every one of them has become one of the walking dead, zombies that walk the earth in search of their only food source; the living. As Rick tries to come to terms with his new world he sets off for Atlanta in hopes of finding his wife Lori and son Carl. After a bad run in with some walkers in Atlanta he finds a group of survivors living on the outskirts of the city. There he finds his family, alive and well and his journey begins. Hey everyone. Just finished Destroy Me, it's book 1.5 in the Shatter me series. This book is from Warner's point of view after he lost his love Juliette.  I was surprised how much I liked this book. From Juliette's point of view I knew he was crazy and really liked her. But from his point of view I see just how insane and in love he really is with her. Though it isn't like a normal book, no climax or real story line, there is a lot of good moments. This is one of those books that makes me really excited for the next book to come out. Unravel me isn't coming out until next year though, so I will just have to wait until it does come out to find out what Warner will do if he finds Juliette. I'd give this 5 out of 5 stars because it is short, but filled with so much emotion I just wanted to read it over and over again. Hope you enjoy :)

ONYX!!!!!! I have been waiting for this book to come out for sooooooo long! The first post I ever posted on this blog was Obsidian, the first book in this series. This is the second book, and this was relatively good. Although this book was not as mind blowing like the first book, a lot of stuff happened. We continue where we left off, with Katy and Daemon. This is a couple I seriesly love, almost more so than Damon and Elena. This book has a lot of surprises and betrayals that were not expected at all. I can't tell you guys anything that happens in this book otherwise it would completely ruin the first book.  I can tell you that it is a really great book, and it leaves a lot open for the next book, Opal. I loved the characters and the developments even though there was a lot of repetition in some things said from Daemon to Katy. I would rate this Four out of Five stars.
