K's Book Review

Hey everyone, I'm back again. I know it's been a while but now that I am back in school I am going to try to keep a more regular reading schedule. I won't be working so much so I'm hoping I'll actually want to read and write more often. And I'll start that by catching up on books I've read and writing the reviews for them. This book is the second book in the series and has been sent to me by the lovely author. The review for the first book is on my blog if you are interested in checking it out. This book carries on after the events of the last book left off from the point of view of a different one of the brothers. Hey everyone I hope you are having a lovely Monday. I'm continuing with my binge of the Harry Potter series. This is the second last book in the series so I'm very close to getting it all done. When I first started reading the series I didn't have much hope for finishing it. Now that I'm almost done I'm truly enjoying reading it more and more. I am starting to understand why there is such a devoted fan base. I'm still not the biggest fan of the movies but I can enjoy the books a lot more now. So for those of you who have read the other books let me tell you a bit about it: Harry is once again back at Hogwarts school for Wizards but now things are getting heated. Hey everyone I hope you're having a great Monday. As you can see I finally got back into reading the Harry Potter series after taking a very long time off. It started off as a way to listen to a book while taking my dog for a walk. When that wasn't moving as quickly as I can read I broke out the books again. Needless to say it has taken up most of my weekend finishing the series. I may have mentioned in the past that I'm not the biggest Harry Potter fan. I still don't enjoy the first couple movies but I've found myself liking the last couple ones more and more in the last couple weeks. My roommate has been a big help with this one. Hey everyone. I'm really sorry that I haven't posted in the last couple weeks. There is no excuse I simply didn't have a book read so I didn't do it. But now that I'm back at school I am finding the time to do some reading and have managed to get a few books read ahead of time. This book is one that was given to me for Christmas by my roommate. She also got the book for Christmas and was reading it at the same time as me. We both agreed that this is one of the best tellings of the struggles of a woman during World War Two. It's not a fiction book but it reads like one. This is a story told from the mouth of the woman who lived it, written out by a member of her family. Let me tell you a bit about it: Edith Beer is a Jewish woman who grew up in Germany during the lead up to World War Two. Hey everyone, sorry I missed you last week. Even this week I have very little energy. Between exams and the incredibly cold weather we're getting I've been taking long naps during the day when I should be getting work done. Christmas is coming and I am 100% looking forward to spending some time with my family. Book wise I have been trying to get caught up on the books that lovely authors have been nice enough to send me. You might remember that a few months ago I did a review for the first book in this series Kings or Pawns. Hey everyone, I hope you're having a happy Monday. We're now into December and the cold weather is slowly starting to effect us Canadians. Thankfully for the last couple of weeks the temperature has been hanging around -4, which is pretty warm for this time of year. The windchill is another thing altogether. A couple weeks ago I told my friend that I was having trouble finding new and interesting books to read. She leant me a couple of books that she enjoyed to get me through to the new year. This was one of those books. Her description of the book was that it was about a murder in the heart of Stalin's communist Russia. With not much more to go on I sat down to give it a read. Hey everyone I hope you had a great weekend! The book I read for this weeks review was sent to me by the lovely author. It took me awhile to get to it because my list of books to read has been very long since I found my other pile I lost while moving. If I had read the description for this book I had long since forgotten it before I got around to reading the book. That doesn’t mean anything to me in most cases because it is easier for me to go into the book blind. So first impressions of the book didn’t really happen. The Hunt for Red October is the 4th book in a series but was the first to be released. It is recommended that it is the first book that should be read to fully understand the series. It is also the book that made Tom Clancy famous. It was later adapted into a movie that is still seen as a popular title years later. Going into this book I didn't know what to expect. I didn't really want to get it at first but because it was so highly rated and recommended I thought I might as well give it a shot. I can tell right away from reading it that it is much older than a lot of the books I am reading at the moment. The style of writing has a weak authors voice that I am used to when reading older books. Let me tell you a bit about it: Set during the cold war the Red October is a Soviet Nuclear Submarine tasked with making a secret voyage to Cuba. Hey everyone and happy Monday. This week I was lucky and got a nice short book to read, which means I had time to start reading next weeks book early. The author was kind enough to send me a copy to read. Like I mentioned before I could tell by looking at the page count that it would be a quick and easy read. Depending on the quality of writing in the book this could be a good or a bad thing. Luckily for me the writing was done well so the book flew by in the blink of an eye. Let me tell you a bit about the story: In this world there are many sinners and many who don't believe in the Lord. For these people there is no greater threat than when the Angels come to Earth, unleashed by a group of scientists looking to prove that God doesn't exist. Hey everyone I hope you are having a good Monday. This week I decided to read a book that is more of a non-fiction book that a historical-fiction. I had picked this book up after reading another non-fiction book since it was so good and got me in the mood for some historical reading. Some of you may know that I love history of World War Two and anything going on during the periods of war. This book seemed right up my alley but I didn't enjoy it like I had hoped I would. It took me twice as long to read as a normal book simply because I kept putting it down. But let me tell you a bit about it: During World War Two there were many planes that flew all over the world fighting and keeping peace. Of the many planes and pilots that didn't make it home one sparked rumours through a country. An American bomber that crashed landed in Palau was not found despite reports of it crashing in shallow clear waters. People reported seeing the crew make it out of the plan before it crash...

When I was in high school two of my friends were very into this series and I used to hear them talk about it all the time. At the time I was interested in a different sort of books so I never thought about reading them until now, when I was in the need of some well rated popular books. I loved the idea of everyone older than 14 being a danger to society. Some of you may remember that a few weeks ago I read Quarantine where anyone in their teen years was the danger to the adults. This contrast works greatly when read back to back because you get to see two complete opposites of the same sort of story. Big difference with this books than most I read, it is set in London, England instead of the USA. It's a great change in my opinion. In the US it is much easier to get guns than it is in England (so I have been told) so the children had to actually be creative in finding ways to fight off the adults and defend themselves. This book has been on my list for a very long time. I loved the idea of a story set in the setting of a high school where the children were not able to get out. It almost sounded like my high school experience, except I did eventually escape. The author had a strong voice and told the story in a much different way than I expected. I had thought that it would start before the virus and then slowly make its way through what happens during and after. Instead the virus is mentioned briefly and the chapters skip ahead in time quickly to keep up with the interesting information. Let me tell you a bit more about it: David was having a bad week when he discovered his girlfriend cheating on him and he punched the man in the face bringing on the wrath of the entire football team. Lately I have been a huge Erik Larson fan since I read Dead Wake by him a couple of weeks ago. I bought two other books by him including this one. The other one I will read in a couple of weeks and do a review for. There is something about the way he writes history while at the same time making into a story and backing up everything with proof really draws me in. I didn't like this book as much as Dead Wake but it still was interesting in its own way. Let me tell you a bit about it: The story is split between two people at the same time in history. The first is about the man who put on the National Fair in Chicago in 1893 and about the challenges it takes to get everything together in the years leading up to it. Many friendships are made and lost in the time before the fair opens. Hello everyone, I hope you are having a good Monday. I almost forgot to do a review today because my classes have ended and I don't have any idea what day it is when I am studying for exams. But I did remember and now I have to tell you about this book. A couple of weeks ago I discovered that my bookstore on campus had a $5 books section. I was super excited to get a cheep read because it meant I didn't have to use my rent money to buy books again. Oops. Once I started reading this book, though, I realized why it was on so cheep. It was just a really bad book. Now let me be clear on this, when I say it is a bad book it means that the subject/content/characters/writing style ect. weren't for me. I couldn't finish the book even though I only read a couple of chapters in. Oh my goodness, another Kitty Hawk! Hello everyone I hope you are having a great Monday. As you may remember a couple months ago I read the first four books in the Kitty Hawk series. Technically I was reading this one too but I took it with me when I went to my parents for the Holidays and forgot it there, and then getting it back took forever. But finally I did get it back and spent a good week reading it over again. I have to say I am super excited to be reading Kitty Hawk again. There aren't any more of the series out right now (super bummed out about that) but I will be watching for them on Amazon for the next one. "What Twirly nugget are you from?" Good morning everyone and I hope you all had a relaxing weekend. This week I got back into using my phone to read books because I couldn't make a trip out to the bookstore to resupply myself. This book was recommended to my by a few people so I thought I would give it a try. First impressions were pretty good. The main character is funny as hell, constantly cracking jokes and taking everything, good and bad, in the best way possible. I knew going into the book that it would be funny but I wasn't prepared for how much I truly enjoyed it. So let me tell you a bit about it: Charley Davidson is a Private Investigator with a few tricks up her sleeve. Since she was born she has been able to see ghosts and help them move on. Technically she is a grim reaper. With the help of a few spirit companions she helps her uncle, the chief of police, solve murders that occur within the city. Hey everyone. This review is super late as I have been so busy with moving and family problems that I haven't had a chance to read the book. Now that things are starting to settle down I have had a chance to read it and now I can finally tell you what I think. The author was kind enough to send me a copy, and though I have had to put it off for the last month, I really am thankful that I was able to read this book. Jane works as a scientist in a research facility where she is trying to create a serum to cure autism. She works with rats to test the cure and one rat, named Einstein, has shown remarkable capabilities. Over time he has been able to navigate mazes and even learned how to count. With the testing going so well she moves up to testing on larger animals starting with a dog named Bear. But what no one realizes is that she is so focused on this cure because her own son Robbie was born with autism. She is hoping that the cure she makes will one day be able to help her s...

I for one am taking the time to catch up on all of my reading and I have finally managed to get the third Kitty Hawk book read. As usual I am posting the review for the third book in the series because the book can act as a stand alone if you wanted to read it that way. If you did read the book on its own you might be a bit confused on a few things but all together it is the same story. Kitty Hawk is back yet again on her journey around the world in her trusty plane. This time she is making a small stop in Iceland to visit a friend of Charlie's (from the first book) and stay with his family there.  While there she takes a tour of the area where she finds that mining for the countries resources has caused a lot of turmoil among the locals. Hey everyone, I hope you are having a good morning. This week (or a couple weeks ago) I started reading A Discovery of Witches. But before we talks about what the book is about there is something else we need to discuss about it.  So I bought this book after waiting for a month to have the money for it. It was thick, the cover was beautiful, the description was perfect, and overall I had really high hopes for it. My hopes were so high in fact that I didn't read it for so long because I was worried about it disappointing me. And my fears were right.  Diana is a witch. Her whole family comes from a very powerful line of witches dating back to the witch trials in Salem years ago. This would be awesome for Diana if she actually wanted to be a witch. But she hates who she is. She has rejected the whole magical world including vampires, demons, witches and so on. Instead she has thrown herself into studying history and is now working for a University doing research in London....

Hey everyone! So as you might remember a couple of weeks ago I read Kitty Hawk and the Curse of the Yukon Gold. The author was kind enough to send me a few more books in the series (yay!) which I was very much looking forward to reading. I find Kitty to be almost like a modern day, Canadian, Nancy Drew.  Once again the dedication page, "dedicated to those who love Taylor Swift music as much as I do," made me laugh quite a bit. The author really does have a great sense of humour. As you all know that makes a book that much better to read.  While I normally don't do second books in my reviews to keep from ruining the first book for people I am making an exception here because it could be read as a standalone if needed. The characters are all new (save for a few letters to a character from the first book) and Kitty herself is not hard to pick up on. So let me tell you a bit about what this book is about.
